The 25th Hour
When I first started in business I worked for a guy named Sean. One night I walked into the office after some late appointments. Sean was still there, typing away in a cloud of smoke, chainsmoking as always.
I vividly remember his fingertips having these permanent yellow nicotine stains on them. He would also always break the filters off of the cigarettes before he'd smoke them. Never found out why.
Anyway - he greeted me and asked why I wasn't at home. I told him I had some leftover work to do and he said:
'yep, you're running into the 25th hour problem'
'what do you mean?' I asked.
'We all want that 25th hour in the day. If we could just get an extra hour, that would solve so much, right?'
I thought about it. Agreed.
He squashed his cigarette, immediately lit a fresh one and said: 'no, it wouldn't. Because you'd want a 26th. And a 27th. And a 28th. There's just never enough time'
Man was right.
There will never be enough time to do everything. Even if we magically made a 25th hour.
That's why you hire people. Or get freelancers. Or let an agency do some of the work for you.
You leverage money to buy time so you can make more money AND have more time.
That's why we do what we do. We handle marketing, the business does what it does best, everyone is happy.
That's the real 25th hour.
Talk soon,
Jonah
