FOMO
Hi,
It’s Jonah.
Here's one of the biggest dangers you can run into when you run a business:
FOMO. Fear Of Missing Out. Can absolutely wreck you.
So here's how you deal with it.
There's a famous story about Napoleon. His generals would keep coming up to him and suggesting ideas. "Maybe we should take Mongolia! Maybe we should take Spain! Maybe we should take Russia!"
(that last one was definitely a mistake)
Napoleon would look at the maps. Do some quick calculus in his head.
Then he would turn to them and say: "gentlemen, sounds great... but we just don't have the horses."
You have to tell your brain the same thing too. Often.
"Yes brain, that's a great idea and that WOULD be nice... but we only have 24 hours a day. We promised ourselves we're going to focus on this. We promised ourselves that we'd be laser focused, remember? After we tackle the other problems we're working on we'll take a look at this one."
You write it down somewhere. Then you move on to the next thing.
Doesn't take that much to sort of take your eye off the ball and get scatterbrained. And before you know it, you don't get anything done the right way.
Business is too hard for that. You're not going to make it at 25% focus. You need 100% focus on one thing and actually going for it instead of having 8% focus on 17 different things. That never works out.
Talk soon,
Jonah
